Palmilla
The
Palmilla Course was the first constructed in the Los Cabos
area and the first Jack Nicklaus signature course in Mexico
(he’s since designed two other courses locally: the
El Dorado and Cabo del Sol’s Ocean Course). This
27-hole course was established over a decade ago by Don
Knoll. The appropriately named Arroyo Nine, Mountain Nine
and newer Ocean Nine all offer incredible views of Los
Cabos’ varied terrain and strikingly beautiful oceans.
The course itself is built on a large piece of property,
whose centerpiece is the Palmilla Hotel. The hotel itself
along with most of the Ocean Nine are right along the ocean,
offering an incredible backdrop for a day of golf, while
the no less spectacular Mountain and Arroyo Nines are built
into the landscape on the inland side of Highway 1.
On
the two original nines, you’ll find lots of fairly
long fairways and vicious greenside bunkers on most holes,
with only a few water hazards to worry about. The Ocean
Nine, although it doesn’t have a single actual water
hazard, has some breathtaking ocean views beautiful enough
to throw any player off his game. This nine is built around
some rather long par-4s and some par-3s and -5s that will
require both confidence and accuracy. The last three holes
all offer epic scenery.
